Aleron Launches Christmas Album Dakilang Hiwaga

Aleron: 1. (Latin) Winged one. 2. An all-male choral group.

Working regular jobs by day and after working, around 25-28 gentlemen converged in a Quezon City residence to sing some choral pieces. Not a bad way to get some time off. Aleron members have one passion despite their variations in their careers and that is singing.

Originally, most of the members are members of the Ateneo Glee Club from different batches. Hanging out one time, one member said; “Why don’t we form a choir?” They got the name Aleron for the group of the emblem of their alma mater, Ateneo de Manila which is an eagle.

From what was started as an alumni choral group and is no longer exclusive to Ateneans as long they have the same passion for singing. They’ve been joining choral competitions and were given recognitions whenever they perform.

They launched their album last Saturday, Dec. 17 at their base of rehearsals which is a residence of one of their members in Quezon City. Their album consists of Christmas songs that we all know and love but with new arrangements and some unfamiliar carols that will surely awe you. Mr. Christopher Ong Arceo is Aleron's ensemble director.

For 2017, Aleron is now preparing for the international choral competition in Barcelona, Spain which is considered the Olympics in choral singing. For updates in the choral genre, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.
