Celebrated pop icon Katy Perry’s newest single, entitled “Roar”, is scheduled to take over the airwaves tomorrow in a highly
anticipated launch. The lead single from her forthcoming album Prism and her first release under MCA
Music Inc. (Universal Music Philippines), “Roar”
promises to live up to the hype and continue in Perry’s habit of dominating the
pop world with her irresistible melodies and edgy style.
With a fanbase as large as Perry’s
– she is the second-most-followed person on twitter with over 40 million
followers – a great deal of buzz has surrounded Roar’s release. The single marks the hitmaker’s first release since
the commercially lauded 2012 reissue of her record-breaking album Teenage Dream. If the song’s name is any
indication, Roar will showcase
Perry’s fierce and fiery side. Artwork for the single was recently unveiled on
August 8th, followed by a series of teaser videos revealing short
snippets of the new song.
Katy Perry is one of the biggest names in today’s pop music scene,
having sold an incredible 10 million albums and 70 million singles worldwide. Her
2008 breakout album One of the Boys
spawned the hit songs “Hot n Cold”, “Waking Up In Vegas” and the #1 single “I
Kissed A Girl”, and went on to sell more than 5 million copies worldwide. Singles
“I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot n Cold” earned Perry her first two Grammy Award
nominations. Her 2010 follow-up, the Billboard
#1 Teenage Dream, was met with even
greater success. Selling more than 2.6 million copies in the US alone, the
album’s first five singles (“California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”,
“E.T.”, and “Last Friday Night”) all claimed the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record for female
artists. Teenage Dream’s 2012 reissue
also set the record for the most multi-platinum singles from one album, with an
astounding eight singles selling over 2 million copies in the US. The album and
its singles earned Perry a total of seven Grammy Award nominations, in addition
to winning “International Album of the Year” at the 2011 Juno Awards.
