MATOMA UNVEILS THE BRAND NEW TRACK ‘GIRL AT COACHELLA’

Press release

Having recently hit a million global sales of his smash hit ‘False Alarm’Norwegian producer Matoma is currently completing his ‘Party At Your Place’ tour which has already included sold-out shows in Londonand New York. Already the 37th most streamed artist in the world at Spotify, the latest step in an exciting time in Matoma’s career comes with the release of the brand new track ‘Girl At Coachella’.

While it maintains the lilting, summery vibe of some of Matoma’s biggest hits to date, ‘Girl At Coachella’presents a change from his usual house-orientated productions with a pop track infused with a reggae feel. Nasri, vocalist with Canadian band MAGIC!, performs the track’s hedonistic tale of fleeting love atAmerica’s most famous festival, while ‘Broccoli’ rapper D.R.A.M. is also present to contribute a punchy denouement to the story.

Last year saw Matoma make his Coachella debut for a set that included guest features from Sean Paul,AkonJa Rule and Nico & VinzIdolator picked his performance as a highlight and noted that Matoma’scollaborative approach resulted in one of the most enjoyable — and strangely nostalgic — DJ sets of the festival.”

As Matoma explains:

"I played my first ever Coachella last year and it was a truly incredible experience. Between the two weekends I was doing writing sessions in L.A. and met up with Nasri from MAGIC! who I have always been a huge fan of because of their feel-good reggae-inspired music.

We wanted to write a song about Coachella since I had the moment of my life at that festival, so we came up with this story about a girl who teases with a guy’s feelings at heart at the festival. It's just a fun story about the good vibes and reckless fun that people experience at a music festival.

We finished the song really quickly and then asked D.R.A.M. if he could do a verse since we felt a rapper could take the song to exciting new heights. After hearing his verse I can from my heart say that he nailed it. I was so honoured to work with such amazing artists and hope you love this feel-good summer song!"

Matoma – the 25-year-old artist born Tom Lagergren – has certainly done big things in a short amount of time. He’s an artist who is equally adept at creating life-affirming originals as he is with cross-genres collabs with the likes of Jason DeruloJennifer Lopez and The Vamps – not to mention a dazzling array of remixes for artists as varied as ColdplayOne DirectionSnoop DoggEminem and Axwell.

Along the way, Matoma has pioneered a bold reinvention of the album concept with his ‘Hakuna Matoma’ collection. Blurring the boundaries between the contemporary playlist and the old school artist album, ‘Hakuna Matoma’ is a collection that continues to evolve with the addition of brand new tracks across all key streaming platforms.

The result is that Matoma commands a following of over 17 million monthly listeners at Spotify. Individual tracks are even bigger still: 163 million streams of his breakthrough track ‘Old Thing Back’119 millionplays of his anthem ‘Running Out’; and another 133 million for ‘All Night’, his recent collaboration withThe Vamps which they performed for Radio 1’s Live LoungeMatoma and The Vamps will join forces again to play the track on Good Morning America on March 13th.
